"But what if it rains?" is a very common question we hear as wedding photographers. We're a husband and wife team from Baltimore, Maryland (a state where it can be a sunny 90 degree day one moment and turn into a chilly 40 degree day with rain the next). And although we love it here, it does come with it's own set of interesting challenges. No bride looks forward to rain on their wedding day but it's a very realistic occurrence that can happen to anyone on their big day. We had a blizzard on our wedding day and the best piece of advice that we can give to couples is to smile and just roll with the punches, the most important factor is that you’re with the one you love making a life-changing commitment. As for our photog friends, we have a few recommendations that will make your day a little easier and your bride a little happier.
5 Items Wedding Photographers Should Bring When Expecting Rain
1. Clear Umbrella: Protect your couple from the rain while remaining stylish
2. White Sheet: This is great way to protect the bridal gown from the wet ground
3. Blotting Tissues: Just in case some water drips down on a made-up face we can blot the water away without ruining make-up
4. Back-up Plan: Be Prepared to Get Creative
5. Positive Attitude: Probably the most important item on this list. Your couple is looking to you for answers/help. Exude confidence and be their problem-solver :)
Kira and David were married at Amherst House in Columbia, Md and a storm was brewing outside which altered their wedding plans a little bit. They moved their ceremony inside and instead of going to the park for formal photos we took good use of the venues ambience outdoors. We placed the blanket down on the wet cement to avoid her dress getting wet and gave David a clear umbrella to keep them both dry. They were in their own world talking about the ceremony that had just taken place and discussing how excited they were to spend the rest of their lives together. These two asked God for each other specifically before they even knew each other and on this day it was evident that God had answered both of their prayers.
