When Jessica reached out to us for a Milk Bath Photo Session in Glen Burnie we instantly started scouring Pinterest for ingredients for a Maternity Milk Bath. We found a few good blogs to start off with but after experiencing a milk bath first hand we have some crucial adjustments that we would love to add to the Pinterest World on How to pull off a flawless Milk Bath in the future.
Step One
Have access to a Bath Tub with natural light and choose a time of day when the light isn’t too over powering. We shot this session on an overcast day so lighting was very easy to deal with. Before running the water, you can start to decorate around the tub with florals like we did. You can also help set the mood by playing soft music and having an essential oil diffuser with Lavender Oil misting in the same room as you to give off a calming sensation.
Step Two
Have all of your milk bath ingredients out and ready to go! (But don’t add them to the tub just yet or you’ll risk a very bubbly and frothy situation).
Here’s what you should have out and ready to add in once your warm water is drawn:
-2 Containers of Dry Whole Milk Powder
-2 Containers of Baking Soda
-2 Containers of Regular Whole Milk
Optional: Flowers
Step Three
Run your water warm (not too hot). Keep in mind, if you’re pregnant the water temperature should not be higher than 102 degrees. Do not over flow your bath tub, remember we have a lot to add in. Once your water is at a decent height turn the faucet off and start adding your dry ingredients first one container a time. Depending on your tub size you may not need to use both containers of each ingredient but it’s always best to have too much than too little for this kind of session. Once all of your milky ingredients are in, stir well so that their are no lumps and your water resembles actual milk. Now you can add your desired amount of Flowers.
Here’s a list of Flowers that we would recommend: Peony, Gerbera Daisy, Lilac, Ranunculus, Dhalia, Zinnia, Chrysanthemum, Aster, Camelia and greenery to go around the tubs edge.
Tip: Dense flowers like roses will not float in your bath. If you need help picking florals, here’s a florist we recommend that can help.
Step Four
The Fun Part. Hop on in! Take a few calming photos with just you enjoying the milk bath before you add in the wild card (your baby). Most babies get really excited about this new bath time with mommy so be ready for anything. The two of you are the very last ingredients to the Perfect Milk Bath. Keep that in mind as you hold on to each other during this time. Jess bought her and her baby white lace outfits to bath in and they looked timeless and adorable!
