Let’s be real…
7 years ago when we were getting married finding black owned businesses to invest in for our wedding was hard. Pinterest and Instagram were new and, honestly, it seemed like the wedding industry was dominated by white men. DJs, Photographers, Videographers, Venue Owners, Decor Rentals, Stylists and even Planners (remember the show David Tutera had, I LOVED that show :) watched every episode when I was engaged) were all white men. Now, just to be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that but for a black couple who is investing a salary’s worth of money into a wedding and wants to recycle their black dollar and not being able to find black vendors for their special day can be a little disheartening.
It has always been our wish that more black artists enter into the wedding industry to professionally share their gifts with couples who want to invest in them for one of the best days of their lives. We need you here now more than ever and with the advances of technology and social media there’s no excuse not to show up.
Which brings us to this blog,
The Black women that you see in this blog are all Wedding Planners and have a passion for professionally serving couples with planning a day beautiful day that is authentically theirs. They all have their own personal goals for their business but another thing that they have in common is their pull to show up and create for their target audience.
For example,
these photos were taken at a Styled Shoot that Courtney-Rose of Dantus & Co. These women all pulled together and supported each other on the vision that worked best for this couple. Many couples that we speak with about our work appreciate that we feature weddings that not only showcase couples who are not often seen in the wedding industry spotlight but also show work done by black wedding professionals.
WHY YOU SHOULD USE BLACK WEDDING VENDORS
By investing in a black owned business not only are your making an inclusive decision but you are allowing that entrepreneur to grow in an industry that is essentially new to us. By using black wedding vendors you fuel a dream and encourage them to create an even better system than before. When you hire a black artist, it also promotes more diversity in the wedding industry to help inspire more couples who want to see more couples like them plan out their dream wedding.
It’s a lot easier now, since social media has really developed, To find Black Wedding Vendors in your area we recommend using Instagram and search your city and black wedding vendor (like “Baltimore Black Wedding Photographer” ) and check out who comes up! Or just selectively search through the Hashtag without adding “Black” and see whose work speaks to you the most. Here’s a more detailed blog on how to find the perfect vendors for your wedding.
You can also take initiative
when searching for Wedding Vendors by asking friends of any black owned businesses that they could recommend. We’ve worked in the wedding industry for 6 years now and have compiled a list professionals that we love to work with and would recommend.
It’s no secret
that professional photography can boost business and increase sales. Marketing your business with eye-catching product images will attract your target audience and give you the platform you need to work with your dream client. Investing in professional photos for your business is one of the smartest and well-calculated decisions that you will make for the growth of your brand. Show people that you value yourself and your product or service by investing in high-quality images. Once you show people that you respect your business and take yourself seriously, they will too.
Your photography gives you the opportunity to be honest and transparent
with your clients as soon as they enter your website. Your image is what sets you apart from other mainstream, competing businesses. It’s what people will remember after they leave your website and what they will talk about when you meet up with them for a consultation. So make it stand out!
