We talk about First Looks a LOT here.
It’s also something we like to bring up at our initial consultation with couples because like it or not it’s something (if used correctly) can save you a lot of time and stress on your wedding day. Almost always, the groom is against it because usually they have always envisioned seeing their bride for the first time walking down the aisle to the altar. But if you guys are up to something a little nontraditional that could definitely make your wedding day a dream come true pleeeeease consider doing a First Look!
Just get ready a little earlier than you originally planned and take advantage of this great time saving tip!
Here’s Why
You should have a first look because it is the only time that you could possibly have an intimate moment together. Think about it. If you wait until the ceremony to see each other, you are going to surrounded by guests for the remainder of the night. But If you carve a little time away for just the two of you before the ceremony, not only can you get some photos out of the way but you can share a peaceful moment together without all of the wedding hooblah!
Also, if you take advantage of your first look before the ceremony, you have the opportunity to join your guests for cocktail hour. You know, and actually enjoy the appetizers and cocktails that you thoughtfully planned out and paid for. Not to mention spend some time who came to your event to see you. You can spend cocktail hour greeting and thanking guests so after dinner at the reception you can actually party with them instead of hastily going by each table to say hey and thanks (MAJOR TIME SAVER TIP HERE).
Last but not least…As photographers you know we have to mention this one in more detail.
You have more time for photos if you do a first look! It’s a great way to get the most out of your photographer because your filling normal down time with opportunities to get constructive photos of you and your spouse. If you put enough time away you can potentially even get family formals and wedding party photos out of the way too!
Of course it’s your day and you can choose to do with your time whatever you wish. As a couple who have personally lived through the wedding planning process 6 years ago and as business owners who help over 25 couples a year plan their dream wedding photography process, we do our best to give helpful advice and this is definitely one of those things we always mention with clients and now high time to be in our blog!
