I’m sure the answer to this question varies from person to person but here’s my take on it.
“What’s the best part about being a Wedding Photographer Full-time?”
Well for me, so far (since I’m only two months in), is the amount of time and unfiltered focus that I am able to finally give to my business and to my family. I would personally consider myself a full-time photographer even before I resigned from my corporate job just for the sheer amount of hours and effort that I put into keeping my business going (it exceeded 40 hours/week which is what the normal American would consider full-time). But the difference now is that I am able not only to keep by business going but to keep it growing (ahh see what I did there…) I’m now able to do the things that I normally wouldn’t be able to do because I’m not tied down to a corporations time-frame. But not just that, the personal time that I gained back has been phenomenal!! I dont wake up every morning at 5:30 am cranky because I have to devote 10-12 hours (yes, not just a regular 9-5) every Monday through Friday and not work on the projects that I really want to complete. Instead, now I can edit throughout the day so that by time Garrett gets home we can work on more productive things or I can take my work with me over to my dads house during the day and spend time with him.
The trade-offs in my personal life have been outstanding but personal life aside, I’ve been able to give more to my clients. I’m able to invite them to more events this year and also opening up some opportunities for them to go out traveling with us in the future and gain free entry into bridal events. This year I’ve gained more opportunities to get out and engage with my clients and other wedding vendors to build stronger bonds and healthier networks. I’ve been able to share twice as many blogs this year, some of them featuring Brides that are not normally shown in the mainstream wedding industry spotlight. I’ve had more time to submit our couples weddings and engagement sessions to publications in hopes to getting their love story heard by a larger audience and potentially inspire other couples to share their love. Aside from being published, I’ve been posting more of our couples on Pinterest in hopes that brides looking for inspiration will stumble upon our work and feel motivated to plan a fearlessly authentic wedding.
Being able to more freely set intentions for your business and work towards manifesting them on a more available daily basis is one of the best things about being a Photographer Full-Time. It gives me more time to devote myself not only to my craft, business and family; but also to helping others in one of the most important times in their lives. It’s always been an honor to be a part of a couple’s wedding planning process and now being able to have more time to do what I love is a real blessing. It’s never a straight answer with me lol but to me…That’s the Best Part about being a wedding photographer full-time.
Thanks for hanging in there through this long post. It’s just something that’s been on my heart and something I wanted to share here. Thanks for reading :)
